The DODD supports the goals of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA)
These goals focus on independence and inclusion and define transition services as:
The IDEIA requires that transition planning be in the individualized education programs (IEPs) of all secondary school students with disabilities beginning at age 16 in an effort to prepare them for the challenges of adulthood.
Youth and family members must be provided with the knowledge to navigate this transition. Collaboration between all relevant agencies; including local County Boards of DD, The Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission/Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (RSC/BVR), and school personnel is essential.
